What Jota-Etch is for
Jota-Etch is a one-component, epoxy-modified etch primer. Its phosphoric-acid content helps the next coat bond to non-ferrous and hard-to-coat metals. It is a tie layer within a complete system, not a protective coat on its own.
Fabricators and maintenance teams use it before they topcoat galvanised steelwork, stainless fittings and aluminium. Without the right primer, those metals often shed paint.
Typical applications
- Properly prepared galvanised steel, stainless steel and aluminium
- General fabrication and OEM equipment
- Industrial buildings in atmospheric (non-immersed) exposure
Limitations to check
- Thin-film adhesion primer (5–15 µm). It is not a barrier or high-build coat and must be overcoated as part of a full system.
- Jotun describes it for atmospheric environments only. Do not specify it for immersion.
- Avoid excessive film thickness. Brush application is for small or inaccessible areas only.
- It does not replace surface preparation. Substrates must be clean and prepared as the TDS requires.
Get the system right
A coating performs as part of a system: surface preparation, primer, build coats and finish. Send us the specification, substrate and exposure. We'll confirm whether Jota-Etch is the right Jotun product, what goes with it, and the availability and lead time for collection in Henley on Klip or delivery around the Vaal Triangle and Johannesburg South.
